So, Arrived in Rio after a majorly delayed flight from Heatherow. Was still not excited on the plane until I realised that I could watch whatever movie I wanted, whenever I wanted and then started to actually click to the fact that I was back on holidays. Arriveed in Rio and it was a balmy 28 degrees. By 2:30 in the afternoon it was a crisp 41. I thought several times that I should just relax and lie by the pool, but then thought that I should do something touristy, so I wandered out to the Christ statue on the hill. When I got there I had to wait 1 hour for the next tram and again almost didn´t go. I wish that i had listened to my gut feeling....
The view was great and it was nice up there, but I just missed a tram down and while waiting for the next one, it started to lightly rain. People were running for cover and I thought "Oh come on, it is just a little buit of rain!" How wrong I was. It soon turned into a torential down pour and the flimsy tarpoline we were under didn´t protect us from the horizontal downpour that was coming in. Then the tarp ripped and it started to hail. Then to make matters worse, as if being soaked to the bone isn´t bad enough trees were snapping in half and flying everywhere. After an hour and the rain stopped, we were told that the rtram could´t make it up due to stuff on the track and the road was blocked. Eventually after about 3 hours and still soaked, I made it into a cab and the road down was covered byt trees and a mud slide and rocks. It was serious. Then my ticket had melted in my pocket so I thought that I would have to pay more for the cab. Luckily the man rememebred me, so it was fine. I got my money back and then spent it on a cab home and a massive pizza which i ate curled in bed in my pj´s after a hot shower. I then had the sleep of my life. It was my first day in Africa all over again.
This morning, I got up and the internet in the hotel didn´t work, then the cab driver took me to the wrong Pier, so I started crying cause it was all getting to overwhelming, then when I got to the right peir, the people didnt know what i was talking about and I started to cry again wondering hat the hell I was doing. Anyway, I have found the boat and the people are nie and I am now ready to set sail for the next week and I am sure, as in Africa, the bad has now passed and the rest of the trip will be great. I think that I am just feeling a bit emotional about leaving London and being alone again and not speaking a word of Portugese. I think that it will all be fine now and I will feel more control in Quito where I can speak some Spanish.
Anyway, All is well, I am over the emotions now and looking forward to sme nice sailing.
