It has been so long since I have blogged and so much has happened, I am not sure that I will be able to cover everything in the 20mins I have left in this very switch internet cafe... When I left you I was still living it up in Zanzibar, which was very relaxing - the 2 long drive days after that however were not. We crossed the border into Malawi - which is an amazing country and then spent 2 days at Chitimba and another 3 at Kande Beach Camp, both on the great Lake Malawi. In Chitimba we did a village walk and I went to see a Witch Doctor who told me my future, which to be fair, was a slight variation of all the other futures he told, but amusing experience nonetheless...
Kande beach was even more relaxing and there was nothing to do in the 40 degree heat but lie in the hammocks and read and nap. Despite what we have been told, we were going to dive in the Lake as I have never fresh water dived, but the dive crew had Malaria, so we swam out to the island with snorkels and looked around,. Not much to see, but more exercise than I have had in a while.
From Malawi, we had another few long drive days to Livingstone in Zambia where the fun began. Lots of activities - I went on a 30min helicopter ride over Victoria falls and into the gorge over the rapids and then went onto Livingstone Island and hang my head over the edge of the falls in Devils Pool. It was such a great day and topped off by a wicked girls night out on the town. Hot tip - Buckets of alcohol are never EVER a good idea, nor is adding your own alcohol, cause it just doesn't taste alcoholic enough. Worst hangover of the trip so far, but I recovered at 2:30 the next afternoon only to back up and go on a booze cruise and fall into my sleeping bag at 4:30am the next morning.
We then left Zambia and crossed over to Zimbabwe where everyone is a millionaire and we went rafting on the mighty Zambezi which I was so petrified about but had a fucking blast! Didn't flip the boat, even on the biggest rapid called the Mother - Grade 5. Wicked day! I have a video to prove it as I still can't believe that I did it. Although the walk out of the gorge at the end of the was the killer, my legs are still sore.
We are now in Botswana, which is a massive contradiction of a country. The richest and most successful of the African nations, yet one of the highest incidents of HIV/AIDS and the worst rubbish tips right next to national parks. Ironic?! We are just about to head into the Okovango Delta and then my next blog will be from Namibia I presume.
Having a great time, rapidly running out of money and have resorted to trading clothes for stone carvings and other items that I probably don;t need and take up more space in my pack then my clothes, but what the hell - it's less washing right?
Miss you all. Mwah
